I just downloaded the community preview and installed it.
Sadly it doesn't start up; there is no reaction at all - neither an error message nor something in the event log.
I used both PowerShell CTP2 and CTP3 running Windows XP SP2 with .NET 1.1/2.0/3.0/3.5 installed.

Is there any way to get some information? (logfile configuration or something comparable?)
Thank you very much!

Kind Regards,

I get the follwing error Vista 32bit SP1 with Powershell 2 CTP3, how do I fix?

The expression after '.' in a pipeline element produced an invalid object. It must result in a command name,
script block or CommandInfo object.
At line:1 char:2

My next question is how would I add bindings to make shift+pgUp and shift+pgdn move the screen up exactly one page I am very used to this behavior on yakuake (I don't know enough powershell to do this right now)

the Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+dn don't seem to work

i downloaded the latest code batch and compiled it with visual studio 2008. there were some warnings and some errors (the errors were only test-related i think) and the program could be started. then i tried to use the quake-mode as stated in the wiki and ran into some difficulties. at first, i could not use the starting script at all, because its naming had changed from "huddled.poshconsole" to "poshconsole", but i figured that out. the starting script initialized and threw a "bla.focus-key bla not found" at me after typing "quake". i used "$host.privatedata.settings" to see all setting variables, but focus-key was missing as well as any substitute name that could be used.
was this an accident or was it removed intentionally? and will it be added again in the future?

thx,
lilqi

ps: i tried to use the official alpha release at first, but the tab completion feature was not working correctly. it completed commands and cmdlets but could not be used on files&folders, which made it virtually non-usable for me.

I am able to build the code from 17182 changeset successfully. But when I start PoshConsole.exe from bin/Debug directory, it doesn't give me the console prompt (the community preview release works fine though).

And on "right click" the application stops working!

What's the exact procedure to get PoshConsole-17182 working? I am completely new to PoshConsole.

The solution does not compile in Visual C# 2008 (90 errors).
The binary won't even start (error and need to close).
I expected to find a WPF console class that I may easily integrate into my app but I've found chaos.

Cool - looking forward to the next drop then! If I'm still seeing more than my fair share of problems then, I'll fire up the debugger and have a closer look.
Doh! My bad.

Jachymko made some changes to the hotkeys in his build and I copied them in, and ... well anyway, the bottom line is that in the process I forgot to trap that error. For the record, the hotkey is Windows key plus ` (Win+OemTilde) and you can edit it in the config file (if you can find that). I'll fix it in the next build.
Well, that does sound like you're having more problems than usual, but the console control is especially beta right now, which means that when something goes wrong, I'm frequently ending up in a position where I can't tell what you typed... which is what happened with that "TextTree" message.

There are definitely issues with trying to execute commands "rapid fire" (in other words: don't try to stress test the speed of repeating commands -- we will fail, but we know that).

Anyway. I think I've mostly fixed that in my current code, and I was just about ready to release when I started trying to fix the hotkeys feature and got mired down in a bog. I should be getting that out this weekend, but to be honest this is going to go slowly for a few weeks because I have some very important "real world" work :D
Hi All,

I've just found out about Poshconsole and have downloaded the latest release. I'm seeing a significant amount of instability (hangs and crashes) and wanted to know if this is expected at this stage of development (being an alpha release, I'm not expecting perfection!) or if I've got something weird in my setup that's causing problems.

Getting totally reproducable errors isn't easy, so I'm gussing it's down to threading issues etc, but for example I've just run a new poshconsole and entered "dir" three times. The first two worked, giving me the expected directory listing. The third has given the listing but has then hung without displaying the prompt for the next command. It hung for about 2.5 mins before returning with a bunch of "Timeout (x of 5) - Console Busy" errors. After that, it just stops responding until I hit escape, at which point the screen clears and I can enter new input. That would be fine, but when I do enter someinthg, it crashes with an ArgumentException, the message in the exception being "TextPointer is not in the TextTree associated with this object". Baring loading up the debugger to get the exception message, I've not looked any further.

My system is Vista RTM, plus I've got Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 installed so I do have the beta version of .Net 3.5. I'm guessing that the problems are down to my environment rather than Poshconsole, since I'm finding it pretty much unusale whereas judging from the other comments other folk are having more luck.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers,

Steve
Ding!

So I reinstalled .NET 3.0 and then powershell, (along the way my profile got corrupted, fun), and it still crashed. So I decided to debug it and when VS05 opened it said "hotkey already registered" !!!! this was due to Autohotkey running on my machine. I shut it down and PC ran! Yay!

Definitely an exception that can be caught :)
